Think Big…I mean Small!

Site 1 on the Fresh Art Tour

Think Small: an art exhibit

Think big! This the often heard mantra in this fast paced demanding world. But what about; think small? That is what dozens of artists in western Wisconsin were asked to do by artist gallery owner Jean Accola of the Accola Gallery.

The Think small ART exhibit will open October 2 and run through November 21 at the Accola Gallery, 502 2nd Ave East, Durand, WI.

Artists were given the limitations of 5” x 7 “for two dimensional art and 27 cubic inches for three dimensional works. (eg. 3” x 3” x 3”).

The opening of the exhibit coincides with the Fresh Art Tour held Oct 2,3 & 4 from 10am to 5pm, at nineteen artists studios and galleries throughout Pepin and southern Pierce Counties.

The exhibit runs through November 20th, 2015.

This invitational show will include artists working in a number of media including: Gaylord Shanilec, wood-engraving; Erin O’brien, silk painting; Jean Accola, acrylic; Jane Foos, textile; Julie Dierauer, multi-media sculpture; Bruce Warren, photography; MaryAnn Cleary, oil painting; Marcella Rose, multi-media oil painting; Marcia Kjos, multi-media collage; Ann Jost, multi-media relief; Leslie Stewart, pastel; Matt Anderson, oil painting, and many more.

Small art is accessible for all people; a great way to begin an art collection. It can be a personal treasure to cherish filling the smallest spaces.

The Accola Gallery is open most Saturdays through the end of the year or by chance or appointment. Call 715-672-8188. It is located at 502 Second Ave East, Durand, WI 54736

Dance of the Deer /Folk Art Masks from Guatemala Site 7

Preparations underway for the Fresh Art Tour Oct 2-4

We are busy getting ready for the Fall Art Tour unpacking masks we collected in Guatemala last winter, masks we found in artisan studios and workshops all across the highlands. The masks are disassembled for shipping and now we must match ears and antlers to the appropriate mask. Over the years- through trial and error- we’ve learned to number the pieces for ease of pairing. Invariably, some of the pieces were roughed up during shipping and before placing them in the gallery we’ll touch them up with a bit of paint, too.

Then on to freshening up the Annex Gallery and installing the masks. It’s gratifying to watch the collection come alive on the gallery walls!

Jody is just back from a buying trip to Peru – and here’s an unpublished tip– you’ll want to stop in to be the first to see some of the extraordinary pieces she’s brought back from women’s groups located in the Sacred Valley.

Happy Touring!

One Week Away!

Autumn. I love this time of year. I love the way the overgrown grasses blow in the gentle winds. I love the cools nights and I love the smells….there’s just something about the way the air smells….
I hope you can join us for the Art Tour and enjoy the gifts of this season!
