Much of Anne Scott Plummer's functional pottery, created at Island City Clayspace in Winona, MN, evokes a mid-century modern style. Mugs, bowls, vases, plates, planters, and special forms such as brie bakers, pasta serving bowls, ramen bowls, ceramic watering cans, and more are available. Color-saturated, satin glazes are velvety to the touch, and some simple white or black forms are accented with bright colors. Glossy greens and blues reflect the nearby Mississippi River. There is a series of serving plates and platters that feature honeycomb and honey bee motifs. Many pieces are decorated in underglaze with images of food, insects, animals, and nearby landscapes. All pottery is food-safe, and can be put in the dishwasher, microwave, and oven. Plummer pays close attention to functionality - how a piece balances in the hand or how the rim of a mug feels against the lips. Plummer's abstract, figurative sculptures are ceramic, created by throwing, hand-building, and/or casting clay. Their surfaces sometimes tell a story through hand-painted imagery.
